Our Goals
Arbitration is a means to resolve disputes outside of courts, whereby the parties to a binding agreement choose a third party (arbitrator) to solve their dispute. With the enactment of Law No. 9,307, of September 23, 1996, arbitration received the legal support necessary for its development in Brazil. Since 1996, arbitration has gained increasing importance and has proven to be an option to solve disputes involving freely negotiable rights.
Within this context, several arbitration specialists got together in 2001 and created the so-called “Comitê Brasileiro de Arbitragem”(Brazilian Arbitration Committee) (CBAr). The Committee is a nonprofit association whose main purpose is to study arbitration and alternative dispute resolutions. With the purpose of disseminating and promoting arbitration, CBAr holds Conferences and Seminars in Brazil and abroad, and publishes, through IOB Publishers, the so-called "Revista Brasileira de Arbitragem" (Brazilian Journal of Arbitration).
In order to achieve its purposes, CBAr is launching this website – an instrument available to those who wish to start learning more about arbitration, but also a useful work and research tool for the Committee’s members.
